Jesus Wept?

Have you ever wondered if Jesus was an emotional stick-in-the-mud?
If he had feelings like the rest of us or if He was so mature that nothing phased Him?
Well, there are two instances in the gospel accounts where we see Jesus cry. • One is the famous John 11:35, due to it being the shortest verse in the Bible.
In this verse we see Jesus “edakrysen” from the root “dakruo” meaning to silently weep tears.
Jesus cried in this way when seeing His friend Lazarus dead before raising him back to life. ••• The other is Luke 19:41.
Here we see Jesus “eklausen” from the root “klaio” meaning to weep as a sign of bewail or lament.
Jesus did this when He approached Jerusalem because they did not recognize that He was God visiting earth in order to bring them eternal peace. • I firmly believe God uses these words to describe His heart. ••• God is saddened and “dakruo” when He sees His children face the wages of sin—death. But knowing they will be resurrected in eternity, His sadness is short-lived and silent.
In contrast, God is deeply grieved and “klaio” when He sees His beautiful creation refusing to acknowledge their adoption into His family. Their arrogance and blindness cause His heart to bewail.
Jesus understood the wages of sin.
Jesus understood that not everybody will be united with Him for eternity.
Jesus understood the urgent, critical importance of evangelism through love and truth.
It made up the structure of His heart which kept Him walking in service, sacrifice, and sympathy.
May we always have the same heart as Jesus.
I pray we never lose sight of our Holy God who loves us and gave Himself up for us.
I pray we make it our mission to fervently spread the good news and pray diligently for each and every soul we encounter along the way.
"whoever says he abides in [Jesus] ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.
- 1 John 2:6
